10 ways to show yourself self-love this year

We could all do with a little more self-love in our lives. The past year has been hard on us all and self-love doesn’t need to be huge gestures, it can just be showing compassion for ourselves and learning new ways to love who we are. We can bring these habits into our day to day routine.

These are some of the ways you can show yourself self-love this year:

  1. Adopt healthier habits and routines that are good for your physical and mental well-being, without an underlying pressurised goal. As an example, add more vegetables to your daily meals, add an extra glass of water or enjoy some extra movement in your day, for the purpose of making yourself feel better rather than to change the shape of your body
  2. Give yourself permission to rest. Resting is productive
  3. Let yourself feel things without labelling emotions as positive or negative. Sadness and anger are just as valid as happiness
  4. Honour your basic needs. Get enough sleep, drink plenty of water, well and move your body
  5. Practice forgiving yourself for past actions and accept that no person can be perfect
  6. Allow yourself to start again as often as needed. There is no imaginary finish line you need to run too
  7. Make yourself a priority and remind yourself you are worthy
  8. Write a list of all the positive things you are. Knowing who you are makes the opinions of others hold less weight
  9. Spend quality time alone with yourself doing the things you enjoy doing
  10. Show yourself compassion always
