Things to watch – March 2020

Stuck for something to watch or just stuck in the house. Here are a couple of shows/films I’ve watched lately and would highly recommend.

Booksmart

Booksmart is a great coming of age film directed by Olivia Wilde. It’s about two graduating teens in America who realise they’ve spent the entire of high school years to get into Ivy League schools only to realise that all their classmates who spent their high school years partying also got into Ivy League Schools. So they spend one last night to party and make up for lost time. Funny, easy watch with a cracking soundtrack

POSE

An American tv series drama set in late 80’s New York, Pose looks at African American and Latino LGBTQ and gender nonconforming ballroom culture as well as the rise in Wall Street culture. Staring the largest cast of Trans actors TV history and some other names you may recognise like the gorgeous Evan Peters from American Horror Story. It’s glam, it’s emotional, it’s raw and it’s really eye opening to a culture that is very rarely portrayed on TV. Watch if you like anything by Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk.
Season one available on Netflix and season two on BBC iPlayer.

Love is Blind

I’m sure by now you’ve seen or heard about Netflix’s crazy new dating show where couples date, and propose all before seeing each other in person. Believe me it is WILD. I’m really not into dating shows usually but this one was gripping and kinda crazy. It revolves around 5 couples in particular who go through this unique experiment as they prepare to go down the aisle. Really easy, light hearted trashy TV.

Atypical

If you are looking for something lighthearted to watch then Atypical is your guy. It’s a tv series about a family who’s son Sam has
Autism. It has a lot of humour and a lot of heart and again educates about something personally I have seen portrayed a lot on TV.

A Quiet Place

A film that revolves around a family struggling to survive in a post-apocalyptic world which is inhabited by blind creatures with excellent hearing. Staring Emily Blunt and John Krasinski, who also directs the film.
Watch if you like anything suspenseful but also really heart warming.

This Is Us

A beautiful, funny, heat warming TV series that follows the Pearson family throughout the years. It’s not often I cry at the first episode of a series but this made me bawl. And I’ve cried several more times since watching it.
